Staff Spotlight: Meet Kat!

Hi everyone! My name is Kat, and I’m the Scheduling Trainer here at PlayDate. I recently celebrated my 1-year anniversary in January, and I can’t believe how quickly the time has flown by. It’s been such a wonderful year!

A little about me: I have quite the crew at home with 2 cats, 2 snakes, and 1 lizard. I love going to shows and traveling and recently had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica, which was an incredible experience! Before joining the scheduling team, I worked as an RBT, which gave me a strong foundation and connection to the work we do every day.

We recently celebrated our 7th Annual Sensory-Friendly Eggstravaganza, and it was so special to see children and community members come together to enjoy a fun-filled day of inclusive, sensory-friendly activities.

Looking ahead, we are so excited for our upcoming Summer Camps! This will be our 8th year of Summer Camp and our 4th year of the Dynamic Discoveries Club! Woohoo! If you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to check out the details further down in the newsletter. It’s an experience you won’t want your child to miss!

May Themes

Early Intervention: Busy Bees

This month, our E..I. group will be buzzing with excitement as we explore our “Busy Bees” theme! Through playful, hands-on activities, children will learn what it means to work together, follow routines, and stay engaged in meaningful tasks.

We’ll focus on building important early skills such as communication, following directions, sharing, turn-taking, and independent play. Using structured and natural play-based learning, our little learners will practice staying “busy” with purpose while developing confidence and social connections.

From sensory play to group activities, it’s going to be a month full of movement, teamwork, and fun as our Busy Bees learn and grow together!

Elementary: Adventure Awaits!

This month, our elementary group is setting off on an exciting journey with our theme “Adventure Awaits!” As we approach summer, we’ll focus on building skills that support independence, confidence, and flexibility in new and changing environments.

Through engaging, play-based activities, children will continue to strengthen key ABA skills, including communication, social interaction, and problem-solving. We’ll incorporate both structured and natural learning opportunities that encourage following directions, turn-taking, peer engagement, and adapting to new experiences.

From imaginative adventures to hands-on group activities, we’ll be exploring new ideas while celebrating each child’s growth along the way. We’re excited for a month full of learning, connection, and fun!

Teen Theme: Building Vocational Skills

This month, our teen group will be focusing on vocational skills to help prepare for greater independence and future opportunities. Through structured activities and real-life practice, teens will work on important skills such as task completion, time management, following directions, communication, and teamwork.

We’ll incorporate hands-on experiences that promote responsibility, problem-solving, and confidence in a variety of settings. Whether practicing workplace routines or building interpersonal skills, our goal is to support each teen in developing the tools they need for success beyond the classroom.

We’re excited to see their growth and progress throughout the month!

Success Stories

We are absolutely giddy to spill the beans on our latest triumphs! Sharing is caring, after all. Do you have a success story to shout about? Drop us a line at info@myplaydate.org. We’re all ears and delighted to spread the good vibes! We love to celebrate victories, big and small!

We’re thrilled that a 16-year-old has been consistently communicating his wants and needs, which has led to a significant reduction in challenging behaviors.

We’re also excited to share that an 11-year-old is graduating from speech therapy due to meeting all of his goals, and now he has the skills to communicate using age-appropriate vocabulary.

Isn’t it incredible what kids can achieve? We’re proud to support them on their journey, making every step a positive experience.
